The Marilyn jeans fiy great! I am 5’2, weigh 134-135 lbs, am pear shaped and the size 8 fits great. I typically wear a 10p in pants so I would agree that you can go down one size but I think a size 6p would have been too small. I like my jeans snug but not skin tight, so it might be personal preference. I can’t say I think these jeans make me look a size smaller but they are flattering. They fit my ample curves and do not gap in the back. If you have a small butt, narrow thighs or hips, I would not suggest spending the $110.00. However, I much prefer to have one or two great fitting jeans for the price than 5 or 6 mediocre fitting jeans for the price. I cannot rate them five starts because even washing in woolite, on gentle and air drying I know these will one snagged and not looking great within 18 months. Sadly, these jeans do not improve with age. Otherwise they are wonderful and dark enough and sharp enough that I can wear to work with a nice sweater and blazer.

I chose these jeans because the product description says “70% Cotton, 13% Polyester, 10% Tencel Lyocell, 5% Elastomultiester, 2% Elastane.” I have other NYDJ pants with similar fabric – less cotton, 10% Tencel, and more elastaine creates a luxurious fabric that feels and looks great. Instead, I was disappointed when these jeans arrived and I read the tag – it says “99% cotton and 1% elastane.” Now I know why the price was so low. I’m a long-time Amazon shopper, and almost every transaction over the years has been honest and satisfactory. What happened here? NYDJ used to be a reputable company, and I wonder if these pants are being sold by some unauthorized thirid-party?
A Connecticut Reader –
I have two other pairs of these jeans, which I purchased a few years ago. Unfortunately, my weight has fluctuated to the point where they did not fit and so I purchased the same exact pair but in a size larger. Because these jeans aren’t cheap I washed them a few times following the instructions and then had them professionally hemmed. When I finally got to wear them I came up against a problem I could not have anticipated: The material for these jeans has changed to the point that the cloth is scratchy/rough on the inside and, thus, uncomfortable. NYDJ is supposed to be a great brand, and it was, but they have lowered their standards re materials. If you have sensitive skin, or you just want a pair of jeans that feels “normal” against your skin do not buy these. The jeans may be made in the USA but the material is imported and is not as high quality as it used to be. I am really disappointed.

High quality jeans that fit those of us who are no linger 25. ;-). Petites are good for shorter people. Theses also feel comfortable. I tend to take a curvier cut and the Marilyns work for me.

This is my first pair of pants in this brand. I am 5’3″, pear shaped, big butt, little waist, big-ish thighs, tiny upper body, 145 lbs, and I got the 8 petite, which is perfect. They would fit 140-150lbs for sure–probably better on 140lbs, depending on the look you want. I don’t usually get petites because I’m short waisted and have long legs (such that it is at 5’3″), but I took a chance because these were a good price when I purchased them. I will hang them, which I would have done anyway, but I will need to wear flatter shoes (not ballet flats–but 1.5 inch sandal/shoe) with this to have a graceful length, because I like pants to break at my shoe. Love these! I got the tan color (called feather), and they are not see through. They have stretch. I intend to use them at work with jackets, and they will work for that. Love! Pants never fit me. I always buy the size that fits my butt and have the waist taken in. These actually fit. I’m so pleased to have found this brand. I hope this pair isn’t a fluke.

I always buy these jeans as they last for ages, always look good and fit perfectly.
Sam’s Mom –
I love the fit of these jeans from the hips down. They definitely elongate and slim short legs like mine and are very comfortable. The problem is the waist. It gaps in the back so that you almost have to wear a belt, which I don’t really like to do with dressier jeans like this. NYDJ always says to order a size down from your normal size, but if I had done that in this case, the legs would have been wayyyyy too tight. As it is, they have a very slim fit. So, for these particular jeans, the tradeoff for a good fit in the hips and thighs is going to be a loose waist. That said, again, they look great on, and I also love the color – can easily be dressed up for work.
Update 12/26/17: The gaping waist has become a major issue making me like these jeans less and less. If you have an hourglass shape, these are definitely not the jeans for you.

In spite of the fairly high prices, I keep going back to NYDJ jeans, primarily the Marilyn line. This particular pair in my usual 4 petite size is very comfortable with just the right amount of stretch and fits my 5’2”, 112 pound body well. I gave a 4 star rather than 5 star rating because lately NYDJ’s sizing and quality has been inconsistent. I sent back the previous pair I’d ordered, also a Marilyn 4p, because it was too big and had a nasty chemical smell. That pair had been made in Mexico, by the way, whereas the one I kept (and am wearing right now) was “proudly made in the USA.” Fabric content seems to have less and less cotton as well, a trend I don’t like. Maybe it’s getting too expensive?

Usually, I can purchase NJDJ in a 2 Petite (I have been a 4P, 6P and 8P), open the shipping package and wear them immediately. I noticed when they arrived, they looked crazy long (without even trying them on), I double checked to make sure I ordered Petite. I was going on vacation and needed them immediately. Hand stitched the hem and wore them slightly baggy/unflattering fit. Really disappointed. Did I receive a bum pair? Do I have to find a new jean brand>
